Cupcakeaversary

You know how I said I needed to get more involved with challenges and the like so that I would be motivated to get more stamping for fun done? Well, over at Taylored Expressions they are celebrating an entire year of weekly challenges. (How awesome are they? I'm always amazed by people like Taylor and Courtney and Beate who always offer not only their stunning creations, but sketches so everyone can share in the creative experience. I barely have time to stamp and scrap, let alone design clever sketches to share with the world.)

But, I digress... There is a BIG challenge going on over there - a 9-sketch challenge to be exact. I'm actually going to try to complete all 9. I had some free time today, which was great, but not for such a good reason. Now that Bradley's feeling better, Mike has taken the horrible spill into Vomitopia. I kept the kids away from him - and we spent some quality time in my craft room! The kids colored and I stamped!

Here's the first card for Taylor's challenge, using her sketch. I paper pieced her skirt and the cupcake paper and did the frosting on watercolor paper to get a better blend of color. I used my SU! markers and re-inkers with a blender pen to do all the coloring and my Copics to do the shading. I don't have any oval Nesties, so I used my trusty ol' Coluzzle. I wish there was a better size gradient so that the border wasn't so big, but it will do. I'm pretty happy with the result - except for one thing. I forgot to glue my ribbon to the back of my designer paper - so I had to trim it closely and it doesn't have that finished look. But, no worries, I think it still looks cute. :) (As always, click on the pic to open a bigger version in another window.)

Part of the challenge is to post all the cards on Splitcoast, so I'm off to do that now. I've been a member on Splitcoast for like 3 years now, and I've yet to upload any pics of anything I've done. I'm a 2-percenter on there. Maybe that will change. :)

I found your blog through Taylor's & I had to click on it b/c I couldn't believe there was just another person out there named Abra. That's my sister's name. As you probably know there's not many out there. If you want, you can find her blog at http://artistryinfocus.blogspot.com
